The AI Act is the world’s first comprehensive legal framework for artificial intelligence, designed to address AI-related risks and position Europe as a global leader. It aims to provide AI developers and deployers with clear guidelines and obligations for specific AI applications while reducing administrative and financial burdens, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
As part of a broader package of policy measures, including the AI Innovation Package and the Coordinated Plan on AI, the AI Act supports the development of trustworthy AI. These measures ensure the safety and fundamental rights of people and businesses, and promote the uptake, investment, and innovation of AI across the EU.
The AI Act aims to foster trustworthy AI by ensuring that AI systems adhere to fundamental rights, safety, and ethical principles, while addressing the risks posed by powerful and impactful AI models.
