U.S. Executive Order on AI
Official AI Policy for the U.S.

In October 30th 2023 U.S. President Joe Biden issued an "Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence"

As of the day of this writing this is the top document by the U.S. Federal government on providing guidelines on the use and development of A.I. Similar to EU's AI Act, this governmental guidelines aim to try to restrict the dangers of AI most of all, however it's important to understand that this is an executive order and not law, meaning that the next administration could rescind it altogether.

The executive order emphasizes the responsible development and use of AI, acknowledging both its potential benefits and risks. The administration aims to advance AI governance through a coordinated federal approach, emphasizing safety, security, innovation, competition, and collaboration. Key principles include ensuring AI is safe and secure, promoting responsible innovation, supporting American workers, advancing equity and civil rights, protecting consumer interests, safeguarding privacy and civil liberties, managing risks from government AI use, and leading global AI governance efforts. Definitions for terms such as AI, AI system, and critical infrastructure are provided to clarify the scope and application of the policies.
